Kulová, Sára ; Petruželková, Alena (advisor) ; Vorlíčková, Blanka (referee)
The main goal of this thesis titled Separated libraries - Library of Karel Teige is based on Teige's important life events to pursue his creative activity and to connect it with his personal library. This topic will form the first part of the thesis - split into period of Devetsil and Surrealist group. In the second part, I deal with the issue of Teige's separated library and its further destiny after 1951. I focus primarily on Teige's estate in the Museum of Czech Literature and on its composition. An important item of this second part are letters between the Ministry of National Security - Headquarters of State Security and the National Security Secretary, which describe an event between the intervention of the State Security into the apartment of Karel Teige and depositing Teige's estate to the National Museum Library. This thesis should help to clarify how Teige's library was separated and where it was deposited.

Univerzita Karlova v Praze Filozofická fakulta Ústav české literatury a literární vědy Diplomová práce Petra Bílková KONEC KARNEVALU poetismus na přelomu 20. a 30. let THE END OF THE CARNIVAL Poetism on the verge of the 1930s Praha 2012 Vedoucí práce: doc. PhDr. Jan Wiendl, Ph.D. Abstract In the first half of the 1920's, in the Czech avant-garde, a new art began to form - Poetism. On the basis of individual manifests and programmatic articles it was defined as modus vivendi. In the 1920's many principles and ideas were shaping the future, not only for the society, but also for the artistic movements. Poetism featured mainly an original concept of art and life; the authors of theoretical articles were mainly Karel Teige and Vítězslav Nezval. Within a few years the concept of life as a careless game and a source of joy faded and bitter- sweet topics began to penetrate Poetism. At this time, the poetics of Poetism changed from the original cheerfulness and everyday beauty to serious existential topics - the evidence is provided by many works of art. This transformation affected poetry the most. In poems made by authors, who came out of Poetism, inspiration thereby gathered is still evident; however, more serious issues are coming to the fore. Each of those poems expresses a distinct reconciliation with the...
Illustrated sheet music covers of the Czech popular music in the first half of the 20th century
Polonyiová, Veronika ; Pech, Milan (advisor) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee)
Illustration of Czech popular music sheet covers in the first half of the 20th century Abstract This diploma thesis focuses on the visual form of popular music sheet covers published in selected publishers in the first half of the 20th century, especially on small formats of the twenties to forties. Many Czech as well as several foreign artists influenced by various artistic tendencies took part in the artistic processing of the covers. The creation of a large part of them is closely connected with illustration, poster creation and advertising activities. Some artists have been creating covers systematically and we can find their work in several publishers, but for some this activity was only a short episode in their work. The resulting prints of music sheet covers obtained in the institutions that collect them are documented and evaluated here - especially the Music Department of the National Library and the Czech Museum of Music belonging to the National Museum in Prague. In some cases, this section also records the original illustrations stored in the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague, which were very helpful in identifying the artistic practices. It is clear from this diploma thesis that the illustrations of these sheet music, which have not been given space in the literature so far, are an important...
Two concepts of poetism. Karel Teige and E. F. Burian
Rozbořilová, Adéla ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor) ; Vojvodík, Josef (referee)
This thesis characterises E. F. Burian's early conception of Poetism in contrast to Teige's "mainstream" avantgarde conception, focusing on the period of Burian's stay in Prague between 1924 and 1930. The crucial aspect of the problem is Burian's emphasis on acoustics and tonality in poetry, opposed to Teige's optical poems based on visuality. First, the main ideas of Teige's program are set up. The thesis then follows Burian's artistic progression, analysing all Burian's fundamental writings (Polydynamika, Idioteon etc.) and explains his idea of polydynamics. The aim is to explicate Burian's vision of poetism and its application in contemporary cultural environment, based on what Burian reflects in his writings. Keywords: Emil František Burian, Karel Teige, Poetism, tonality, visuality, optical poetry, voiceband, polydynamics

Popular Culture Patterns in Poetism
Čepec, Richard ; Wiendl, Jan (advisor) ; Vojvodík, Josef (referee)
Popular Culture Patterns in Poetism (abstract) This text aims to describe fundamental manifestations of poetism through the perspectives of actual pop culture science and previous approach of the 1920s. Poetism as a specific viewing method of the world developed in the region of Czechoslovakia in the first half of the 1920s (artistic union Devetsil). Popular culture elements have their own role and function in the new rendering of reality and democratization process in the literature. Karel Teige and Vitezslav Nezval are considered as the key figures of the concept. In the first section text points to the research of popular culture mainly in the second half of the 20th century and also points to the Teige's essential theoretical bases from the first half of the 20s. With awareness of Teige's multilateral and interdisciplinary orientation, this text stresses his essays about literature and cinematography. The conclusion of this section is that the terms pop culture and popular culture are not the same, the first is a source of new elements and themes not fully theoretically described in the 1920s. The second terme is a socioeconomic a cultural complex fully integrated in the capitalistic society and usually interconnected with the so called "high culture". Teige's concept is based on a poetic reconstruction...
Biebl's Collection S lodí jež dováží čaj a kávu and its Context (the Exoticism of the Avant-garde)
Tichá, Soňa ; Holý, Jiří (advisor) ; Vučka, Tomáš (referee)
This work's main concern is the analysis of the transformation of exoticism motives in Konstantin Biebl's S lodí jež dováží čaj a kávu. The interpretations of the text follow the context of the avant-garde exoticism in the era after World War I. The analysis is supported with motives of exoticism in Biebl's works from the 20's, and also with two works of his contemporaries: Jaroslav Seifert's collection of poems Na vlnách TSF and Vítězslav Nezval's Exotická láska. Two Different Versions of Vítězslav Nezval's Poems from the 1920th
Hušáková, Barbora ; Holý, Jiří (advisor) ; Špirit, Michael (referee)
The thesis deals with two differrent versions of Vítězslav Nezval's poems from the 1920s, focusing on self-censorship. First I observe the development of poetism, principles of the composition of the poems and Nezval's works from the 1920s. In the following part, I describe the condition of cultural background during the 1950s and speeches pronounced at the SČSS conference. On the basis of comparison of the two versions of Nezval's poems from the 1920s, I proceed to the following classification of motifs which were removed by the Nezval's self- censorship − biblical and mythological motifs, references to European avant-garde, carnality, alcohol and drugs, exotic places and oppressive social conditions. Key words: poetism, Socialist Realism, version, poems, self-censorship, motifs
